Sooke is located on the southern tip of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. Sooke is named for the T'Sou-ke Indian Band, the early inhabitants of the area. In the past, the economy of Sooke was logging, lumbering and fishing. Nowadays, tourism is a major part of the economy of Sooke. The natural beauty of the community draws in travellers from all over the world.

Sooke has a very moderate climate, typically warm and dry in summer and fall months. Winters are usually mild with frequent rainfall, some frost, and only occasional snow. Sooke has a small population of only about 10,000 residents.

Sooke is a 40-minute drive from downtown Victoria, via Highway 14, and also receives excellent bus service, with public transit busses arriving and leaving several times a day. Travelling between Sooke and the heart of Downtown Victoria is easy and convenient.

Climate and Seasons

As for temperature, in the summer months, the temperature is usually in the mid 70's and up into the low 80's (Fahrenheit), and coupled with low humidity. It is not often thatn temperatures get into the 90's, although it does happen on a hot summer day.

Winter temperatures can get down to freezing during the night, but during the day temperatures are usually between 40-50 degrees.
